Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani praised Kurdish MMA fighter Namo Fazil, describing him as a symbol of the Kurdish people’s determination and urging him to uphold his principles while competing internationally.
In a statement, Talabani said Fazil had drawn inspiration from the courage and sacrifices of the Peshmerga, adding that Kurdish heroes inspire one another through resilience and strength.
“He himself states that he gained his courage from the valor and struggles of the Peshmerga,” Talabani said. “Truly, our heroes inspire each other with strength and resolve.”
‘More Than an Ordinary Champion’
Talabani said Fazil had moved beyond being simply an athlete, arguing that he now represents the aspirations and values of the Kurdish people on the international stage.
“My sole request for Namo is this: you have transcended being an ordinary champion,” Talabani said. “You represent the will, power and integrity of your people on the international stages.”
He added that Fazil is becoming “a legendary hero of our time.”
Call to Uphold Principles
The KRG deputy prime minister emphasized the importance of maintaining principles regardless of sporting outcomes.
“Great heroes might lose a contest, but they never sacrifice their principles, and they remain guardians of their people’s noble values,” Talabani said.
“I urge you to become that legendary hero.”
